What is an herbal consultation?

Herbal consultations give us an opportunity to work together to address your specific health goals using plant medicine. I use a combination of energetics (of people, problems, and plants), folk tradition, and modern research-based practices as a framework in meeting your unique constitution and needs.

This is a great option for people with recurring or chronic health issues, and people who take prescription medications and are concerned about possible herb interactions. The consultation is a therapeutic, judgement-free setting, where you can expect to be fully listened to.

The initial intake typically takes 1.5 hours, which gives you a chance to tell your story and gives me a chance to ask questions. After our consultation, you will receive an in-depth response email detailing our conversation, with herbal formulas as well as food, supplement and lifestyle recommendations as requested. Those herbal formulas can be purchased on a sliding scale from my apothecary, or sourced from your local apothecary (or woods and fields, if you so wish!) You can call or email to request a refill any time- please allow 1-2 weeks for formula filling.

Your follow-up appointments (45-60 minutes) build on our relationship and allow for tweaks to formulas and incorporation of new strategies as your health goals evolve. I recommend clients schedule a follow-up 4-6 weeks after they start taking their herbs, and then every 6-8 weeks after that.

Acute or mini care consultations are available for short-term complaints or tune-ups as needed (for example, “I’m about to get on a plane and need some immune support!” or, “I just sprained my ankle and want to make sure it heals right”.) They also make a nice gift for the herb-curious person in your life.

FAQs

  • No. In the US, herbalism is not covered by insurance. I utilize a sliding-scale payment model to make my services as accessible as possible. If the scale is a barrier to you, get in touch and we can work something out.

  • Yes! Most of my consultations are currently virtual, so I can see you anywhere you have a strong, secure internet connection. If you want to purchase herbs from my apothecary, I charge a $10 flat fee for packing and shipping.

  • That depends! For acute concerns (i.e. fever, upset stomach, or wounds), herbs can work very quickly. For more chronic or long-term conditions, expect to take your herbs regularly for about 3 months before seeing major results. We also may adjust your formula as things shift within your body and needs.

  • Yes! I am trained in herbal safety and herb-drug interactions. While there is always the chance for an unexpected reaction with any new food or herb, by working with a trained herbalist you can minimize the interaction risk while using plant medicine.

  • While it varies depending on the needs of the client and types of formulas used, clients pay on average $40-$80/month for tincture blends, and $30-$55/month for tea blends. I am happy to work with clients to find formulas that are cost-effective while still addressing their health goals.

  • A “dropperful” is how much liquid you can get into the tincture dropper when you squeeze it fully- it will be about 70% full. One dropperful is equal to about 1 ml of tincture. 4-5 ml is equal to 1 teaspoonful.
